Pond Planting Event
The Garden Gab Group needs volunteers for a special planting project on September 21, 2018. Volunteers will dig holes and install bulbs and plant materials in the natural buffer around the Owners' Clubhouse Pond. The project will take place in several phases and introduce additional color and plant variety into the buffer.
Meet at 9:00 a.m. by the bench adjacent to the pond (closest to Colonial Pkwy and Virginia Park Dr corner). We need volunteers to bring shovels and post hole diggers and suggest garden gloves and insect spray too. It should only take a couple of hours to dig 24 holes, 4 feet apart. Garden Gab will bring the plants, garden dirt and mulch. We also need a couple of people with boots to help plant the bog plants in the bare spots at water’s edge. The soil is sandy, so digging is not too hard.
The plants are deer resistant and hardy and should really improve the look around the pond. The iris are spring bloomers, then the obedient plants will bloom early summer to frost and the hibiscus will bloom midsummer to frost.
All are welcome to help dig, plant and mulch. Come out to help beautify the pond!
